I only fill out the fields that are applicable to my needs. Now most people see this panel and get intimidated but rest a shared you only use the fields that are applicable or useful to you as you can see from my panel I don't even use all the fields with in the template. You'll notice you have fields for entering in your copyright, keywords, headlines, descriptions, captions, and a whole bunch more. You can set up the meta-data template in photo mechanic just once and then apply it to all images they get imported do your catalog.
